When was the track built?
There have been many rumors around F1 coming back to South Africa starting from 2010; Cape Town was often indicated as the venue, but never a solid proposal has been made.
The reformed Formula One rules generated the right financial boost and the definitive layout proposal in Green Point, designed by me, will be able to bring the top motosport series to the Capital.
When was its first Grand Prix?
The first race is expected in 2023 when the new F1 organization will become operative.
It will host both F1 World Title and African Continental races.
What’s the circuit like?
The main straight is using the ample spaces offered by the docks area in the port.
The first half of the track is very fast through the wide streets and highway, with a mix of long range and 90 degrees corners, up to turn 8. Then it goes back to the port area in a curvy and very technical section.
This circuit offers many overtaking spots.
Stands, boxes and paddock area are not permanent.
Where is it located?
In the heart of the city in the beautiful Western Cape province, between Green Point and Victoria wharf (- 33°54’13”, + 18°24’27”).
