Lawrence Allen – Chingola

Circuit: Existing
Layout: Fictitious (designed by me) – © 2020 AllAlongTheRacetrack

When was the track built?

The official opening date hasn’t been found; it was surely used before the Independence and up to the 1960s.
The original circuit, from main straight to turn 8, has been recovered and upgraded, along with its facilities, thanks to its beautiful design.
The extension from turn 9 has been designed by me, with the final sector inspired by the tight final hairpin in Sepang.

When was its first Grand Prix?

It will alternate with the Ndola circuit to host the Zambia GP. It will be the first ever F1 event in the country.

What’s the circuit like?

The first 8 corners have kept their original fast and flowy soul; only the first breaking has been made sharper to increase the escape route.
While the current circuit loops back after Turn 8, the new Formula 1 extension begins with a wider Turn 9, with its mix of straights, chicanes and hairpins before the opposite straight that brings to the final corner where multiple lines will ensure many chances of overtaking and defenses.

Where is it located?

Prior to Independence known as Garneton, it is located just outside the city of Chingola and its airport (- 12°29’16”, + 27°50’44”)
