Atlas Circuit – Mecheria

When was the track built?

Algeria has hosted some Grand Prix in the 1930s on road courses, then motorsport never came back to the country.
Thanks to the new organization, interest has risen again, and a new circuit has been designed by me in this very distinctive part of Algeria.
It is served by the nearby airport, and it comes with a complete estate project of hotels and 5-stars facilities to compensate for the remote location. It will be completed by 2023.

When was its first Grand Prix?

No titled race has ever been held in Algeria. This first ever permanent racetrack will be ready in 2023.

What’s the circuit like?

Clearly inspired by the African road circuits from the beginning of the past century, this track has many points of interest.
Sector 1 has six turns in rapid sequence, each with a different angle: a challenging and spectacular snaky section that leads to a series of 3 straights followed by heavy braking zones.
The most eye-catching bit is the triple-apex T11/12, with a steep downhill exiting the first and an uphill leading to the second one; the desert hills make a wonderful natural stand.
Finally sector 3 with its super-high-speed T15 and then the final 4 corners, the slowest part of this racetrack.
It is a one-of-a-kind F1 circuit, that will also host the 24h of the Atlas, offering a completely different and old-school type of racing.

Where is it located?

Just outside the city airport, in the Atlas mountains at the beginning of the immense Algerian desert (33°30’04.7″N; 0°12’29.4″W)
