When was the track built?
Tunisia has one of the richest motorsport heritage in Africa, having hosted non-titled GPs particularly before WWII, using various street circuits in Tunis.
And with this multi-layout circuit, designed by me, the goals of the new Formula 1 Organization are all met: bringing the sport everywhere while paying tribute to its history.
It has two different variants in the Belvedere Park, which was used also in 1955 (on a different layout), adding a new permanent section with modern stands, pit and entertainment facilities.
The new area will be ready by 2023, and in the meantime the streets inside the park will be re-paved to suit Formula One standards.
When was its first Grand Prix?
No titled race has ever been held in Tunisia. The two layouts of this semi-permanent racetrack will rotate for a spot in the Continental Title from 2023.
What’s the circuit like?
A street circuit with no 90° corners, plenty of elevation changes and high average speeds is designed to be iconic.
This layout has a wider downhill T1 followed by a steep uphill corner that leads into the Park, where roads are tighter; the snaky section between the trees is uphill until Turn 7 and then goes quickly downhill.
A very particular near-180° hairpin at T11 and the long parabolic T12 bring cars back to the city streets with a challenging double chicane T14 and then two long uphill straights.
The final sequence of three curves is downhill and particularly.
Where is it located?
In the centre of the capital of Tunisia, as it uses some streets of Belvedere Park, close to the main airport (36°49’22.3″N; 10°10’20.1″E)
