When was the track built?
Tunisia has one of the richest motorsport heritage in Africa, having hosted non-titled GPs particularly before WWII, using various street circuits in Tunis.
And with this multi-layout circuit, designed by me, the goals of the new Formula 1 Organization are all met: bringing the sport everywhere while paying tribute to its history.
It has two different variants in the Belvedere Park, which was used also in 1955 (on a different layout), adding a new permanent section with modern stands, pit and entertainment facilities.
The new area will be ready by 2023, and in the meantime the streets inside the park will be re-paved to suit Formula One standards.
When was its first Grand Prix?
No titled race has ever been held in Tunisia. The two layouts of this semi-permanent racetrack will rotate for a spot in the Continental Title from 2023.
What’s the circuit like?
A street circuit with no 90° corners, plenty of elevation changes and high average speeds is designed to be iconic.
The second variant has a slower and tighter Turn 1, followed by an even steeper T2 that leads into a longer section inside the Park, with two longer straights and a wider range of curves, from high-speed long sweeping ones to slower corners, including a different version of a near-180° hairpin T10.
After a sequence of super-high-speed bends we’re back in the city, with a different layout around Place Pasteur. The only difference is the different design of the fast chicane T17.
Where is it located?
In the centre of the capital of Tunisia, as it uses some streets of Belvedere Park, close to the main airport (36°49’22.3″N; 10°10’20.1″E)
