Sidra Racetrack – Benghazi

Circuit: Fictitious
Layout: Fictitious (designed by me) – © 2020 AllAlongTheRacetrack

When was the track built?

Libya has hosted also Formula 1 Gran Prix between 1925 and 1940, mainly in the Tripoli area, with Mellaha Lake being the most famous circuit.
But when the new F1 organization was announced, it was the area outside Benghazi that offered the most suitable location for me to design a new permanent track, with state-of-the-art facilities, that is scheduled to be ready by 2023.

When was its first Grand Prix?

No titled race has ever been held in Libya. This first ever permanent racetrack will be part of the Continental Title from 2023.

What’s the circuit like?

The 4.4 km layout is a mix of different styles, which makes it challenging for finding the perfect car balance.
Sector 1 has mainly slow corners, with short straights; the second part is characterized mostly by long-radius fast curves leading to the final sector with a tricky fast chicane as last turn between two long straights that will ensure ease in chasing other drivers and overtakes.

Where is it located?

Just outside the city, less than 5 km from the international airport, in a desertic area (32.126424; 20.304439)
