When was the track built?
The first permanent circuit is western Africa, the Circuit de Dakar-Baobabs took more than a quarter of a century to become a reality.
The first project was presented to the Senegalese authorities in 1975 but only in 2000, thanks to a Belgian entrepreneur, the layout was finalized and the first piece of tarmac laid down.
It has hosted various races, mainly endurance, and in order to host F1 may required an upgrade in facilities and in the pit entrance.
When was its first Grand Prix?
Although the circuit already existed, it will host the first ever F1 GP in 2023 for the Continental series.
What’s the circuit like?
The circuit is very technical, thanks to its 19 curves of various kind, from the sharp snaky section up to Turn 7, to the more technical final sector, passing by the ultra-fast bit that leads to the heavy braking Turn 11.
A great mix that makes this circuit challenging and fun for drivers but requires compromises for engineers between top speed and best car balance.
Sand, dust and high temperatures are normally a factor on this beautiful racetrack
Where is it located?
It can be found at Sindia, around 60km south east of the Senegalese capital, Dakar (+ 14°35’58”, – 17°01’25”)
