Japoma Circuit – Douala

When was the track built?

Cameroon hosted a motorsport event in 1950, on a twisty 10 km circuit around the streets of Douala.
And to pay tribute to that event the new F1 organization will come back to Douala, in the new Japoma Sport complex for the first ever GP.
The circuit, designed by me, will use the new streets and car park of the quartier and will feature permanent pit facilities.
The complex is now finished and has hosted the first football matches, while the circuit will be ready for the 2023 season.

When was its first Grand Prix?

This will be the first ever F1 GP held in Cameroon. The new circuit will be ready to host a Continental series race in 2023.

What’s the circuit like?

It is very difficult to classify this one as a street course; although it is not a permanent track, it uses mainly statal and connection roads, wide, faster and less sharp, guaranteeing high average speeds and overtaking opportunities, especially since they’re followed by chicanes.
Particularly eye-catching is the section between the football pitches and the car park one, surrounded by stands to recreate the stadium atmosphere.
The final chicane is challenging, tight and slow, after 1.5km almost completely at full throttle in the new connection road.

Where is it located?

In the Japoma locality in Douala, passing through the new stadiums of the sport complex (4°00’18.8″N; 9°49’28.8″E)
