When was the track built?
It has been inaugurated in 1993 and used mainly for F3000-style cars and V8 Supercar and it has hosted Superbike, MotoGP and A1GP since.
Many approaches to F1 in the past have failed but with the new organization, reduced subscription costs and more revenues, the circuit will be able to do the small upgrades necessary to host a Gran Prix, like a new surface, pit building and improvements to safety by using sand and tarmac in all escape routes.
When was its first Grand Prix?
The new circuit will be ready for the new F1 in 2023 and will rotate with other two to host a GP in the country.
What’s the circuit like?
A very simple layout for a stop-and-go circuit that will see cars on full throttle for the majority of the lap and will give drivers many chances for overtakes through tows.
Lap times will be close or below the minute and tyre consumption will not be balanced, providing some challenges in finding the right set-up.
Where is it located?
Approximately 30 miles south of the Indonesian capital, Jakarta; it is served by Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. (- 6°32’12”; +106°51’23”)
