When was the track built?
The circuit was built in 1986 and it has hosted a variety of motorbike events across the 90s.
It has been unfortunately replaced by Sepang with the new millennium and the track began a period of decline.
In 2015 though the Sultan of Johor announced a major refurbishment that never took place until the new F1 organization has been launched.
The new layout designed by me and massive facilities upgrades will be ready in 2023.
When was its first Grand Prix?
The new circuit will be ready for the new F1 in 2023 and will rotate with Sepang to host a GP in the country.
What’s the circuit like?
The motorbike track has been adjusted to F1 racing with the new design, with an extension between turn 5 and 9 and a reshape of the first two and the last three corners.
Thanks to that there will be more overtake spots and space for accommodating more fans, but the circuit has kept most of its original features and its concept.
Where is it located?
At Pasir Gudang in Johor province, around 30 minutes from Senai Airport and suitable for access from Singapore’s Changi Airport. (+ 1°28’56”; +103°54’42”)
