When was the track built?
The circuit, designed by Tilke and part of the Jaypee Greens Sports City, a development of homes, sport and leisure facilities, was built in 2011 with the main purpose of bringing Formula 1 for the first time to the country.
Unfortunately for various reasons, only 3 GPs were held before the venue was left out of the calendar.
With the new organization it will be back starting from 2023.
When was its first Grand Prix?
In 2011, won after a dominant weekend by Sebastian Vettel’s Red Bull.
It will rotate with the other Indian circuit for a calendar place in F1.
What’s the circuit like?
The circuit has an interesting layout, with three long and wide straights at the beginning that has provided plenty of overtakes.
But it is especially the fast, flowing sections between turns 5 and 15 that has generated a positive feedback from fans and drivers; also the significant elevation changes are making this track challenging enough.
Where is it located?
South east of New Delhi, around 60km from Indira Gandhi International Airport. (+ 28°20’59”, + 77°32’07”)
