When was the track built?
Laos was able to secure a spot in the calendar and the city of Vientiane offered the best possible venue for a Grand Prix.
A permanent circuit was also considered, but the big space in front of Pha That Luang has been considered the perfect choice for temporary pit buildings and stands.
The circuit, designed by me, is not only a great racetrack, but also goes through some of the most beautiful and important buildings and places of Laos.
When was its first Grand Prix?
The new circuit will be ready for the new F1 in 2023 and will host the first ever GP in the country.
What’s the circuit like?
Despite being a street course, it benefits from the wide streets of the Laos capital; it is all the opposite of a slow track.
A long main straight already offers overtake chances at turn 1, followed by another long rectilinear section.
Sector two is extremely fast, although never-fully-straight, with a particularly interesting turn 9, where various lines are possible.
The final sector is a more typical street one, with mainly 90° corners but still suitable for duels and cars being side by side.
A combination of traction and top speed is required.
Where is it located?
On the streets of Vientiane, between Pha That Luang and Patuxai, less than 10km from the International airport. (17°58’41.9″N 102°37’55.9″E)
