When was the track built?
This is the circuit that finally brought major motorsport events, in particular MotoGP, to Thailand.
Desired by the local politician and former cabinet minister Newin Chidchob, who aimed at transforming the rural city into a sporting destination, and designed by Hermann Tilke, with the biggest focus on having the best visibility from the stand, so much that pit garages themselves are located under the main grandstand, it was completed and opened in late 2014.
It has hosted various motorsport series and from 2023 it will be part of the Formula 1 rotation.
When was its first Grand Prix?
The new circuit will be ready for the new F1 in 2023 and will host the first ever GP in the country.
It will rotate with Bangkok Street Circuit in the Continental series.
What’s the circuit like?
It has a relatively simple design and it can be classified as a high-speed racetrack; only turn 3 and the final corner can be considered slow, while on the rest of the circuit top-speed and good car balance in fast curves are more important.
We’ll see Formula One cars with flat back spoilers and no lack of overtakes for sure.
Where is it located?
At Buriram, in north eastern Thailand, around 400km East of Bangkok; it has a domestica airport connected to the capital’s one. (+ 14°57’49”, +103°05’05”)
