When was the track built?
Haiti had only one operational motorsport venue, Circuit 9, which is unable to host major racing events.
Due to the impossibility of improving it, a new area few kilometers from it was selected to build the first F1 racetrack in the country.
Designed by me, it’s a land recovery project in one of the poorest area of the city, as part of the values of the new Formula One organization.
When was its first Grand Prix?
The new circuit will be ready for the new F1 in 2023 and will host the first ever GP in the country.
What’s the circuit like?
The track concept is fast stop-and-go, with many overtaking spots; with various influences (Zandvoort, Hockenheim, Istanbul), it will fully deliver its objectives.
Its shape, with the tunnel after turn 16, is mainly dictated by the lack of available space in the city.
Sector one has a sequence of high-speed corners leading to the hairpin at 9, followed by a more technical part characterized by two fast chicanes.
The final sector has three straights and heavy breaking zones, the best points for overtaking; interesting also the sequence of sharp but fast turns 23,24 and 25.
Where is it located?
In the Cité Soleil commune, in the north part of Port-au-Prince metropolitan area, few minutes from its International airport. (18°35’24.2″N; 72°19’57.0″W)
