When was the track built?
Despite not having a rich motorsport heritage, with no active racetrack, the beautiful island of Antigua will also be part of the F1 Caribbean season, with a street course around Victoria Park in the north part of the capital Saint John’s.
The circuit, designed by me, will have a permanent pit-lane, garages and paddock facilities, while everything else will be built for the race.
Roads will be widened and re-surfaced in time for the first Grand Prix.
When was its first Grand Prix?
The new circuit will be ready for the new F1 in 2023 and will host the first ever GP in the country.
What’s the circuit like?
Not many 90° corners, which is always good for a street course, but two difficult chicanes, a couple of hairpins and a parabolic curve make this track very complete and attractive.
The most exciting feature is the elevation change: 20 meters downhill during the two straights leading to turn 4, which are gained back when cars will climb again the hill after turn 16, which means that the long right-handed corner is uphill.
The main straight has a big hump halfway through, like old-school racetracks.
Where is it located?
In the north part of the city, close to the St. John’s Harbour, in the Green Bay quartier, around 5 km west of the airport. (17°07’04.4″N; 61°50’14.1″W)
