Circuito De Almeria – Almeria

Circuit: Existing
Layout: Actual

When was the track built?

The Circuit of Almeria is a complex of two racetracks, the 4.2 km Almeria on the east, opened in 2000, and the 5.0km Andalucia, inaugurated in 2016, which can be combined to form the course named Iberia second only to the Nordschleife in Europe for length.
The circuit is already built up to the best safety standards and it will take only some upgrades of the pit facilities; stands will also be added to host Formula 1 in 2023.

When was its first Grand Prix?

It will host the first ever Formula 1 GP in 2023.
It is one of the eight Spanish circuit that will rotate for spots in the European and World Title series.

What’s the circuit like?

It is probably one of the most interesting experiments of the new Formula 1 organization; a 36 turns 9.2km racetrack is something completely different from what we’re used to see in recent history.
It has an “old school” feel thanks to elevation changes and sweeping corners that will put to the test drivers and cars.
Set-up must be a compromise between the downforce required in the corners, an incredible mix of any sort of curve, and the top speed needed in the two 1km straights.
Even if it has never been used for GPs, it embodies the spirit of the new Formula One organization.

Where is it located?

In the municipality of Tabernas, near Almería, in southern Spain, around 30km from the city’s airport.  (+ 37°05’07”, – 2°15’57”)
