When was the track built?

It was built as part of the 1992 Barcelona Olympics projects and inaugurated just few weeks before the first GP in 1991, replacing the other city’s racetrack of Montjuic.
It has been modified a few times, particularly after the tragic 1994 season; for thew new Formula 1 in 2023, the new chicane at the end will be eliminated, going back to the old “Europcar” corner.

When was its first Grand Prix?

In 1991, made famous by the Senna-Mansell duel, with the British driver on Williams-Renault taking the victory to keep his title hopes alive.
It is one of the eight Spanish circuit that will rotate for spots in the European and World Title series.

What’s the circuit like?

It is a good mix of high and low speed corners, many of them being long and with a wide radius, where the balance of the car is put to the test, including the new turn 10.
It is traditionally irksome for overtaking despite the long main straight, which is the best chance.
Tire management also a key around here.

Where is it located?

At Montmeló, around 25 km north of Barcelona and 45 minutes from its airport.  (+ 41°34’06”, + 2°15’38”)
