Motorland Aragón – Alcaniz

Circuit: Existing
Layout: Actual

When was the track built?

Alcaniz has a very long motorsport tradition that goes back to 1960s with the street course, Circuito de Guadalope, that was running for 3.9 km in the heart of the city and along the river.
Despite being very popular with drivers and fans it raised safety concerns and in the early 2000s plans for a permanent circuit started.
The Motorland complex, including a technology park, a sports area and a leisure and culture area, designed by Tilke with the consultation of De La Rosa, has been opened in 2009 and it has been mainly used for motorbikes.
It will join the circuit database of the new Formula One.

When was its first Grand Prix?

It will host the first ever F1 GP in 2023.
It is one of the eight Spanish circuit that will rotate for spots in the European and World Title series.

What’s the circuit like?

It is a very interesting circuit, with a mixture of long wide-range and slower, tighter corners; but it is most famous for its elevation changes: around 50 meters to its highest point after the start, before descending after turn 8, with rates up to 7%.
Sector 1 and 2 are extremely technical for all these reasons, while the final one has a 1km straight, which provides significant overtaking spot thanks to the tight hairpin at its conclusion for the car variant that will be used for Formula One.

Where is it located?

In the Teruel province in Aragón, few kilometers north of Alcaniz and around 125km from Zaragoza airport.  (+ 41°04’43”, – 0°11’38”)
