When was the track built?
The firs race was held in 1929, on an idea of cigarette manufacturer and Monaco resident Anthony Noghés, General Commissioner of the Automobile Club de Monaco, on a 3.1 km circuit that will last until the seventies, when an extension around the swimming pool will create the current layout.
The rest is history, as the Monaco GP will become a recurrent event, despite the lack of overtaking, thanks to the always unpredictable races, charm and fashion surrounding the event.
When was its first Grand Prix?
In 1950, a race dominated by Juan Manuel Fangio’s Alfa Romeo, who lapped everybody thanks also to the first corner crash that took out all his teammates.
It will rotate with Malta for the 7th spot of the European Continental Series.
What’s the circuit like?
The iconic racetrack is incredibly narrow in many sections, making overtake often a too big risk even for the bravest drivers, who are reworded though for their extraordinary precision and accuracy for bringing cars to the limits dancing millimeters away from the guardrails.
Taking pole position here is more critical than everywhere else, especially with tyre consumption not being a factor; safety cars though are often offering chances to chasers.
Where is it located?
On the harbour area in Monaco, with the starting line on Boulevard Albert 1er; closest airport is Nice, around thirty minutes away. (+ 43°44’14”, + 7°25’30”)
