When was the track built?
After a long tradition of road grand prix on the public streets around the Mugello area, unfortunately ended by a tragic accident, the permanent circuit was built in 1974.
Used mainly for motorbike races, it almost went bankrupt in the late 80s, when Ferrari bought it.
The layout has never been modified, but after the acquisition from the Scuderia it went through extensive renovations in the facilities.
Formula One came here in 2020 for what was supposed to be a one-off, but with the new F1 Organization the circuit will be added to the rotation.
When was its first Grand Prix?
In 2020 when Mercedes conquered a 1-2 victory, with Hamilton and Bottas, after locking up the first row as well.
It is one of the seven Italian circuit that will rotate in European Continental Series and World Title.
What’s the circuit like?
Famous and appreciated between fans and drivers due to its undulating layout and various elevation changes that make it seem like a rollercoaster ride as it is set in a valley, the Mugello Circuit offers a sequence of high-speed sweeping corners, sometimes blind, after a long main straight that pitches into turn 1, the best overtaking spot.
No asphalt here in the run-off areas, so even the smallest mistake is severely punished.
Where is it located?
Near to the town of Borgo San Lorenzo, in Tuscany, around 30km north of Florence and its airport. (+ 43°59’50”, + 11°22’18”)
