When was the track built?
Most famous for its motorbike racing heritage, Assen has hosted also cars events in its history; opened in 1955, after public roads of the town were used since the 1920s for Tourist Trophy races, it has been shortened and modified a few times from its 7.7 km original layout to the latest version, finalized in 2010.
In order to provide a rotation with Zandvoort, Formula 1 will add the circuit to the database from 2023.
When was its first Grand Prix?
It will be the first ever F1 GP on this venue.
It is one of the two Dutch circuits that will rotate in European Continental Series and World Title.
What’s the circuit like?
Despite being designed mainly for motorcycle racing, it is expected to produce entertaining GPs also with the new Formula One cars, thanks to its fast corners and several breaking zones after long straights, where overtaking will be possible.
The last chicane should provide late drama as well.
Where is it located?
At south of the town of Assen, in northern Netherlands, with Groningen airport around half an hour away. (52°57’46.7″N 6°31’33.2″E)
