When was the track built?
Opened since 1992, when the Wirral 100 Club decided to use an ex RAF radar area for a 1.7km course, which became immediately very popular for cars and motorbikes racing such that in 2006 a massive improvement of the layout and its facilities was completed.
It hasn’t been enough to bring to this part of the world any major competition, until now.
A further expansion and upgrade, designed by me, that combines existing parts of the track with completely new ones, including creation of state-of-the-art stands and pit buildings, will finally bring Formula 1 in Wales from 2023.
When was its first Grand Prix?
It will be the first ever GP in this country.
It’s one of the three Welsh circuit to rotate for a spot in the European Continental Series.
What’s the circuit like?
Being built on a cliff made any extension pretty demanding; despite that, by keeping the section between turn 7 and 11, the final two corners and the lengthened main straight, a 4.5km course with many overtaking spots and interesting corners has been created.
Challenges for drivers will increase due to the predicted uneven tyre consumption, as the right ones are more stressed on the long turns, and to the weather, often windswept and wet.
Where is it located? Just south of Rhosneigr, on the island of Anglesey, in Wales; the local airport offers connections to Cardiff, while Liverpool airport is 100 miles north. (+ 53°11’24”, – 4°29’51”)
