Layout: Actual
When was the track built?
Used since the 1920s, it has been tarmacked and considered a proper circuit since 1950.
It has hosted F1 since 1964 alternating with Silverstone until 1986, when the latter won the battle for the British GP.
Even if the layout has never been changed since 1960, it has received some safety upgrades through the years and, thanks to the new Formula 1 organization, will be back in the circuit database from 2023.
When was its first Grand Prix?
In 1964, when Jim Clark, on Lotus-Climax, won a tight battle against BRM’s Graham Hill, taking also the lead in the Championship.
It’s one of the seven circuits to rotate for two spots in the European Continental Series and one in the World Title F1.
What’s the circuit like?
Always liked by drivers, it offers few place for wheel-to-wheel action and only the bravest are able to perform overtakes.
Mistakes are costly, almost like in a street course and whether is often a factor, as well.
Where is it located?
Around 20 miles from Central London, with all the City’s international airports at easy reach. (+ 51°21’27”, + 0°15’48”)
