When was the track built?

A project of a motorsport complex, including a racetrack with two layouts, a drag strip, a karting course, hotels and leisure, retail, light industrial, educational, medical and office developments, to reclaim a big area south of Reykjavík, was launched in 2006.
When groundworks started, the financial crisis hit Iceland hard and the project was stopped.
It will be revamped now to be inserted in the new F1 circuit database from 2023 and finally host the first GP.

When was its first Grand Prix?

It will be the first ever race on this track, and it will rotate with Denmark for the 18th spot of the European Series.

What’s the circuit like?

The design is quite simple, but it offers its challenges.
The two straights provide overtaking spots, but the most interesting feature is represented by the two snaky sequences of corners after Turn 2 and just before the final one, where it is difficult to find the perfect rhythm, being too agressive or to gentle at the entrance.
Weather conditions could be tricky even in the summer long daylight hours.

Where is it located?

Close to the city of Reykjanesbær, around 30km south of the capital Reykjavík and its airport. (+ 63°57’45”, – 22°25’18”)
