When was the track built?
Norway’s first circuit and more modern it was built in 1990, as a 2km circuit designed also by Formula One driver Thierry Boutsen, nearly 20 years of attempts from the government to build the first motorsport permanent facility.
In 2006 an extension and modernization was approved by the government and Tilke commissioned for the design, that was completed in 2012.
In order to host F1 a new extension, designed by me, will be completed by 2023, bringing the track length to nearly 4.3km.
When was its first Grand Prix?
It will be the first ever race on this track.
It will rotate with other two circuits in this country for a spot in the F1 European Series.
What’s the circuit like?
The new extension respects the circuit concept but provides more overtaking opportunities, thanks to longer straights and heavy braking turns, and a proper main stand for fans.
It will remain very technical, but traction will no longer be the main factor, as cars must now have also a good top-speed.
Where is it located?
In Rakkestad, 120km south of Oslo; the closest airport is Moss Rygge, around 45 minutes away. (+ 59°22’00”, + 11°15’42”)
