Anderstorps Motorbana – Anderstorp

Circuit: Existing
Layout: Fictitious (designed by me) – © 2021 AllAlongTheRacetrack

When was the track built?

Inaugurated in 1968 as the Scandinavian Raceway, after three local drivers and entrepreneurs decided to re-use an old airfield area, it managed to host all the six F1 Swedish GP editions from 1973 to 1978, despite basic facilities.
The layout has remained almost the same until today, even the circuit has tried to improve its facilities and safety standards various times, not being able to attract major motorsport series though.
To bring back Formula One, a new refurbishment, designed by me, will be completed, focusing on pit and entertainment facilities, with a small change on the layout.

When was its first Grand Prix?

In 1973, won by Denny Hulme’s McLaren-Ford in front of the local idol Ronnie Peterson, who started on pole with his Lotus-Ford, while Fittipaldi and Stewart were affected by engine issues.
It will rotate with other four circuits in this country for a spot in the F1 European Series.

What’s the circuit like?

The main straight has been moved on what was the back straight exploiting the whole length and width of the “old airfield” tarmac, sorting the 50 years old issue with the pit location.
The new first chicane will bring cars back to the original circuit, technical and characterized by long sweeping corners, particularly the slightly banked Turn 4 and 5.
Turn 7 has kept the same design although it has now a 7° banking, making it faster, and leads to the new final sector, with a tighter Turn 8 and the new final three corners that form an extension and allow to exploit better the length of the straight, which is the real overtaking spot.

Where is it located?

In Anderstorp, around 130km southeast of Goteborg and its airport. (+ 57°15’56”, + 13°36’29”)
