When was the track built?
The area of the former military airport of Opole has been used recently to build a private track test, very modern but short and twisty.
It has been mainly used for driver training programmes, safety courses, and corporate events.
Seeking new expansion and looking also to attract motorsport, a new FIA Grade-1 development, designed by me, will transform it into a major racetrack in Poland; it will partially re-use the existing course and roads and runway of the airfield, which will also be requalified and redeveloped to meet the highest environmental standards.
When was its first Grand Prix?
It will be the first race ever on this circuit.
It will rotate with other three circuits for the Polish spot in the F1 European Series calendar.
What’s the circuit like?
The new track is fast, with 3 long straights that guarantee also plenty of overtaking opportunities.
Cars will have low-downforce set-ups.
Turn 4 and 5 are slightly banked, which adds more character to a circuit that was completely flat.
The triple change of direction at T8-9-10 is particularly tricky, coming after a high-speed corner.
The final sector is made of three extremely-high-speed bends, providing a great opportunities for tows to the finish line.
It has all the ingredients to guarantee great racing.
Where is it located?
In Kamień Śląski, around 80km east of Katowice and 120km south of Wroclaw, in the southern part of the country; both cities have well connected airports. (+ 50°31’40”, + 18°05’44”)
