When was the track built?
In the late 1990s, Formula 1 was trying to expand to the Middle East and Beirut has been in Bernie Ecclestone’s mind often, with two different ideas of racetracks in the port area raised but never turned into actual projects.
The magnificent marina of the city has been also selected by me to design a 5.8km FIA Grade 1 circuit that will finally bring Formula One to Lebanon, also helping the city to recover from the devastating explosion of 2020.
When was its first Grand Prix?
It will be the first ever GP in this country.
It will have a secured spot in the F1 Middle East Continental Series.
What’s the circuit like?
It is characterized by the triple-bended main straight, which is never actually straight and will be extremely challenging due to the high speeds at which cars will go through.
Than it goes more into the city, with more usual stop-and-go sections between the streets; straights are long and wide enough to still offer overtaking opportunities if a driver is good enough to follow close.
Where is it located?
In Zaitunay Bay, a new wonderful quartier, with a marina and the best nightlife, just 10km north of the airport. (33°54’06.7″N 35°29’38.2″E)
