When was the track built?
When Formula One started looking at the Middle East for new venues, Saudi Arabia was expected to be the first one to host a GP from this area, thanks to its longest associations with the sport, mainly as a sponsor.
Only late in 2018 the first rumors of a circuit being built in the Kingdom, with Qiddiya as location; although that project is progressing, in 2020 the new venue of Jeddah was identified for the first ever race in the country, with works that have been completed in record time in November 2021, just few weeks before the Formula One GP.
When was its first Grand Prix?
It will be the first ever GP in this country.
It will have a secured spot in the F1 Middle East Continental Series.
What’s the circuit like?
Although it is a “street course”, it is semi-permanent and it is clearly designed by Tilke to break the stereotype of the slow, stop-and-go full of 90° corners road circuit.
The result is a concentrate of 27 fast sweeping corners, with project average speed over 250 km/h, surely exciting for drivers but with question marks still open on the overtaking opportunities and the high risk of safety cars, due to the limited amount of run-off areas.
Where is it located?
In the Corniche area of the city, around 12km from the centre and 25km from the International airport. (21°38’23.4″N 39°06’04.9″E)
