When was the track built?
Even if it’s the oldest continuously independent state in the Arab world, Oman is the last of the Middle East country to join the Formula 1 calendar, thanks also to the push given by the Continental Series.
The circuit and real estate project, built close to the existing karting track, will include a concert area, a water park, a panoramic hotel overlooking a fast sequence of corners, luxury villas and three 360° observation towers, strategically built where fans can enjoy cars going around.
It is scheduled to be ready in 2023.
When was its first Grand Prix?
It will be the first ever race in this country.
It will have a secured spot in the F1 Middle East Continental Series.
What’s the circuit like?
Sector 1 is the fastest, with two long straight and sweeping corners; overtaking should be easy in turn 1 and 10.
The middle one is a bit twistier and it’s where traction and driving precision will matter most, while in the third and final section the focus is on the high-speed sequence from turn 21 to 25, a unique flow faced at 200+ km/h.
A mistake here will make drivers vulnerable in the last corner and main straight.
The circuit also offers interesting elevation changes, uphill from the starting line to turn 5 (+20m) and in the long turn 15, and downhill in the other parts.
Where is it located?
In a newly developed area from the desert, between the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre and the Muscat Hills Golf & Country Club, just 5 minutes south of the International airport. (+ 23°34’59”, + 58°19’14”)
