When was the track built?
It is difficult to find exact information about the original circuit, which is now used mainly as a venue for drag racing and finds itself in poor condition.
One thing is certain: in the area there is a massive passion for motorsport as demonstrated by the construction of a tri-oval nearby.
Thanks to that the Autodromo has been redesigned and renewed by me and will get the Grade-1 certification in time for the new F1 organization in 2023.
When was its first Grand Prix?
It will be the first ever race at this venue.
It is one of the six Mexican racetracks that will rotate in the Formula One North American Series, where Mexico has three spots.
What’s the circuit like?
As usual the idea was to respect and enhance the original concept of the track, so the four fast sweeping corners have been kept, although with a slightly different design, in particular 7-8 which has now three apexes.
Sector 1 is way more challenging, with the long parabolic corner replaced by a chicane, after the 950m main straight, and a “snake sequence”.
The distinct design of turns 16-to-19 also adds some character to the too simple former layout, creating also an embracing stand.
Where is it located?
Few kilometres East of Aguascalientes, at 2,000m above sea level, in central Mexico; it is around 40 minutes from the airport with daily connection with the main hubs in the south of the USA, and around 500km north of the Capital. (+ 21°50’41”, -102°08’59”)
