Fundidora Park Raceway – Monterrey

When was the track built?

Created for the CART and A1 series, which have raced here from 2001 to 2006, it was a 3.3km semi-permanent course winding around parkland roads on the site of a former steel mill, converted starting from the 1990s to a massive commercial area.
Racing was stopped here due to crisis of the American CART series but an extension of the circuit, using public roads around the Cintermex complex, designed by me, will be used for Formula One starting from 2023.

When was its first Grand Prix?

It will be the first ever race at this venue.
It is one of the six Mexican racetracks that will rotate in the Formula One North American Series, where Mexico has three spots.

What’s the circuit like?

The “Mexican-Monaco” is a twisty circuit built inside the homonymous park in the city center, with little margin for mistakes and limited opportunities for overtaking, even if park roads have a decent width.
The new bit of Sector 1 goes into the public highway, after a tight hairpin at Turn 1, and it’s probably where we’ll see more side-to-side battles.
A completely different racetrack from the other five Mexican ones.

Where is it located?

In the park of the same name in a commercial area in the center of Monterrey, just 20km from the airport. (+ 25°40’42”, -100°16’55”)
