When was the track built?
Built in 1993, the track featured a drag strip and road racing course, and it has hosted mainly local racing, particularly drag races; it was often alternated with the Autódromo Monterrey.
The new Formula One Organization has incentivized a complete refurbishment of the facilities and a main course extension, designed by me, which will bring Formula One also here, starting with the Continental Series, from 2023.
When was its first Grand Prix?
It will be the first ever race at this venue.
It is one of the six Mexican racetracks that will rotate in the Formula One North American Series, where Mexico has three spots.
What’s the circuit like?
It’s a stop-and-go circuit, with long straights or fast sections immediately followed by hard braking zones and tight turns and chicanes, which means it’s really challenging for drivers, for finding the best set-ups, for brakes; but it’s all for the delight of fans that can enjoy plenty of overtaking and battles.
Particularly interesting are the tricky chicane 6-7, in full acceleration, the very tight one 15, followed by two multiple apex corners, and Turn 20, where cars will decelerate heavily while not being straight.
Where is it located?
In the city of Guadalajara, in the Jalisco State, in central Mexico. It is adjacent to the city’s International airport. (+ 20°32’03”, -103°20’42”)
