Pocono Raceway – Long Pond

Circuit: Existing
Layout: Actual

When was the track built?

Opened in 1968, featuring only a three-quarter mile oval and a drag strip, it was quickly extended to the current 4km oval and in the following decades several connection roads, offering various internal layouts have been added.
The family managed circuit has hosted all the main American series and thanks to the new organization will also start having Formula 1 cars from 2023.

When was its first Grand Prix?

It will be the first ever race in this venue.
It is one of the eight circuits in the Eastern area of the United States, which will rotate for three spots in the Continental Series.

What’s the circuit like?

Formula 1 will use only the pit and back straights of the oval and a challenging, twisty and fast layout of roads to connect them.
Differently from Daytona and Indianapolis there will be no long banked corners, making Pocono more similar to a conventional F1 circuit.
Overtaking shouldn’t be a problem; keeping the rhythm in the first and final sector will be the key to record the best lap times.

Where is it located?

In the Pocono Mountain Resort area of northeastern Pennsylvania, around 180km west of New York City and 150km from Newark’s Liberty Airport. (+ 41°03’18”, – 75°30’19”)
