When was the track built?
Built in 1955, in an area where motorsports was on the rise since before WWII, so much that two variants of a street course were used from 1950, the permanent circuit has remained unchanged since then, except the obvious safety upgrades.
It has hosted all main American series, and thanks to its heritage it will be added to the Circuit Database to finally have a Formula 1 GP as well, starting from 2023, after completing minor upgrades to run-off areas and pit buildings.
When was its first Grand Prix?
It will be the first ever race in this venue.
It is one of the eight circuits in the Central area of the United States, which will rotate for three spots in the Continental Series.
What’s the circuit like?
It is generally fast, with many points where cars can reach 300+ km/h and different overtaking spots, although it is not one of the widest tracks around.
It also features many elevation changes, which contribute to make driving challenging and exciting, and one of the most famous corners in the world “The Kink”, Turn 10, which will be flat out for Formula 1.
Where is it located?
Near Elkhart Lake, halfway between Milwaukee and Green Bay, in Wisconsin; Milwaukee International airport is around 100km away. (+ 43°47’48”, – 87°59’30”)
