When was the track built?
Opened in 1989, after around two years of works, it was the combination of a road course and a drag strip, used as the main straight.
It has hosted both 2 and 4-wheels races, and in 2003, after a change of ownership, it has been improved with a new pit straight, parallel to the drag strip, and a new set of corners after it to connect it to the road course.
It is suffering financial difficulties and surely the arrival of Formula 1 from 2023 will help on that side, too.
When was its first Grand Prix?
It will be the first ever race in this venue.
It is one of the eight circuits in the Central area of the United States, which will rotate for three spots in the Continental Series.
What’s the circuit like?
It’s a short circuit, with only two hard braking zones and overtaking spots, but with a challenging sequence of fast corners in sector one and another one of slow turns in the final part, where finding and keeping the rhythm is not easy.
Slight elevation changes make the track more interesting.
It will be completely re-surfaced for Formula 1.
Where is it located?
South of Topeka in the state of Kansas. The town has a small private airport, while the nearest International airport is at Kansas City, around 130km away. (+ 38°55’37”, – 95°40’27”)
