Chuckwalla Valley Motorsport Park – Desert Center

Circuit: Existing
Layout: Fictitious (designed by me) – © 2022 AllAlongTheRacetrack

When was the track built?

It was built in 2010 and for more than a decade it has been a really appreciated venue for private tests and events, also with the connected private runway.
With the new F1 Organization looking for new locations, the whole site will be completely transformed with a project designed by me.
There will be a new circuit for Formula 1, with two shorter variants for minor series, and a longer 7.9km one for Endurance Series, including the “24 hours of the desert”; the former runway will serve as a drag strip and also as the main straight of the track and the tri-oval.
In addition, there will be also the “Little Chuckwalla” kart circuit.
Facilities includes stands for more than 100,000 fans, two 360° view towers, state-of-the-art pit and paddock buildings and a resort just outside the gates; they’ll all be self sufficient thanks to the two solar farms.

When was its first Grand Prix?

It will be the first ever race in this venue.
It is one of the eight circuits in the West coast of the United States, which will rotate for three spots in the Continental Series.

What’s the circuit like?

Turns 7 to 10 are the only ones survived of the original layout, although with slightly different angles.
The rest of the track is made of straights or high-speed sections and heavy braking zones, as the concept of this design is to maximize the  overtaking spots and give an old-school feel.
Particularly interesting Turns 1 and 2, with a gentle banking, the triple-apex 13 and the sequence of high-speed bends leading to the final corner.
This circuit has all the ingredients to become a classic.

Where is it located?

In the census designated place of Desert Center, in the Colorado Desert, in eastern California, around 100km East of Palm Springs and its International airport; Los Angeles is 275km to the West. (+ 33°45’56”, -115°19’53”)
