When was the track built?
Las Vegas has been a target destination for Formula 1 since the 1980s, when two titled races were held in front of the Caesars Palace, but due to the poor condition of the asphalt and the low public attendance there has been no sequel, although rumors of a comeback have been more frequent in the last years.
In 2022 a surprise announcement was made for a long-term agreement with the city to host a Grand Prix on a new street circuit passing by the Las Vegas Strip.
When was its first Grand Prix?
It will be the first ever race on this circuit, but not in the city of Las Vegas, that hosted two USA GPs in 1981 and 1982 in the Caesars Palace parking lot; the first one, final race of the 1981 season, won by Alan Jones on Williams-Ford, who came one point short from winning the title, secured by Nelson Piquet and his Brabham-Ford, who finished fifth; Alain Prost on Renault and Bruno Giacomelli on Alfa Romeo completed the podium.
It is one of the eight circuits in the West coast of the United States, which will rotate for three spots in the Continental Series.
What’s the circuit like?
It has high-average speeds and offers few overtaking spots and various challenges with tyre management due to the low night temperature in the desert.
The fast last corner at T17 is not one for the fainted hearts, like the super fast double bend at T10/11, both leading to tricky braking zones at T1 and T12.
The nearly 2km long straight is surely the best part where to see wheel-to-wheel action.
Where is it located?
In one of the most famous areas of the Planet, the Las Vegas Strip.
The Harry Reid International Airport is few hundreds metres from the paddock. (+ 36.097516, -115.173081)
