When was the track built?
Built in 1990, after the International interest in Australian motorsport had a big spike in the 80s, it has hosted several major events, including Motorcycle Grand Prix, with local hero Mick Doohan, both national and intercontinental.
It has been extended in 2012 to a 4.5km version, but the original layout and two shorter ones are also available.
To host Formula 1 from 2023, the first three corners will be slightly modified, to increase the length of the main straight and safety standards.
When was its first Grand Prix?
It will be the first ever race on this circuit.
It is one of the eight Australian circuits that will feature in the Oceania Continental Series.
What’s the circuit like?
The new 980m long main straight, together with the redesigned Turn 2, will be the best overtaking spots, as the racetrack is very twisty.
Cars will aim at medium-high downforce set-ups as it will be critical to be nimble in the kart-like sector two, as well as being able to follow closely the car in front to try a plunge in the first corner.
Where is it located?
At Eastern Creek, 40km west of the Central Business District and the International airport of Sydney. (- 33°48’14”, +150°52’15”)
