Phillip Island Circuit – Phillip Island

Circuit: Existing
Layout: Actual

When was the track built?

The permanent circuit has been inaugurated in 1958, and basically remained the same since then, with a couple of changes to the pit lane and the “Honda hairpin”, being the home of the Australian MotoGP race in the last three decades; but the roads of the island have been used since 1928 for 2 and 4-wheel racing.
Now it will be added also to the Formula 1 Continental calendar from 2023.

When was its first Grand Prix?

It will be the first race ever on this circuit.
It is one of the eight Australian circuits that will feature in the Oceania Continental Series.

What’s the circuit like?

Designed with motorcycles in mind, it is a constant flow of long-radius sweeping corners, with a couple of hairpins that are also the best overtaking spots.
Everything is enriched by significant elevation changes, wonderful surroundings and an unpredictable weather that can make racing even more fascinating.
Formula One cars will have medium downforce set-ups as there is no particular need to aim for the top speed here.

Where is it located?

In the south part of Phillip Island, around 200km south of Melbourne and its airport. (- 38°30’09”, +145°13’56”)
