Surfers Paradise Street Circuit – Surfers Paradise

Circuit: Existing
Layout: Actual

When was the track built?

Inaugurated in 1991 for the CART Indycar series, it became immediately a big success with fans and drivers, thanks also to its location, in a coastal resort with grandstands backing onto the beach itself.
Recently it is hosting the famous Supercars series but from 2023 it will host, in its longest version, Formula 1 as well, using the final spot assigned to Australia in the Oceania Continental Series.

When was its first Grand Prix?

It will be the first race ever on this circuit.
It is one of the eight Australian circuits that will feature in the Oceania Continental Series.

What’s the circuit like?

Formula 1 will use the 2009 extended layout, without the triple chicane formerly at Turn 7, extending the straight length on the Beach Parade and improving overtaking opportunities.
The circuit features four long straights followed by heavy braking corners, making tows very important and favouring side-to-side duels; only the final sector with its five turns will be a little bit more technical.
Brakes will be under severe pressure.

Where is it located?

In the Surfers Paradise suburb of Gold Coast City in eastern Australia, around 20km north of the city airport and 80km south of Brisbane. (- 27°59’05”, +153°25’33”)
