When was the track built?
The archipelago made of nearly one thousand islands and islets is the land of competitive national teams in many sports, and it’s now looking at expanding also in motorsports.
The new Formula 1 Organization has identified it as one of the countries in the region with the physical space and the financial possibilities of hosting a race and will support the creation of a national federation and the construction of a brand new state-of-the-art permanent circuit, designed by me, which not only will host Formula 1 but also other popular Australian and Asian series.
As usual, the environmental impact for the construction is kept to the minimum and the facilities are enabled to run impact-zero events.
When was its first Grand Prix?
It will be the first race ever on this circuit, which has the 9th spot of the Oceania Continental Series calendar.
What’s the circuit like?
It has a mixed layout, with a very technical section from Turn 4 to Turn 10, featuring corners of all kinds, which will require precision and great car balance. From a strong braking Turn 4, to a fast and open chicane at Turn 6-7 to the tight and twisting following one.
Even more difficult the long parabolic right-hander Turn 11 which leads to the most challenging braking point in Turn 12, critical to have enough speed in the straight, one of the two best overtaking spots.
The final sector offers a 1.5km full-throttle final part after Turn 16, with a couple of high-speed bends, which may remind the final straight in Baku, although here barriers will be far from the road.
Weather conditions are likely to be a factor during the weekend.
Where is it located?
Around 20km north of the Suva city centre and 10km west of its International airport; the capital is located on the main island of Viti Levu, where also the other major International airport of Nadi is. (-18.059638, 178.526915)
