When was the track built?
Inaugurated in 1967, it has been used since for Turismo Carrera races and, due to its location, it hasn’t been modified since, with a unique design.
After a track widening it will be included in the Circuit Database as one of the shortest Formula 1 circuits ever.
When was its first Grand Prix?
It will be the first ever Formula 1 GP in this venue.
It is one of the eight Argentinian circuits in the database that will rotate for three spots in the Continental Series and one in the World Title.
What’s the circuit like?
Its unique shape didn’t allow for modifications or extension but, in line with the spirit of the new Formula One Organization, it will be made safe thanks to Tecpro barriers.
It is made mainly by fast bends, which will require good balance at high speed but also low downforce to reach the best top speeds.
Its most eye-catching feature is the figure-8 shape, achieved with a wide-radius hairpin after one of the best overtaking spots at Turn 5, with the final corners being the other one.
It is so different from most of the existing F1 circuits that will surely become a highlighted appointment in the calendar.
Where is it located?
It is located in San Juan, in Western Argentina, near the Andes mountain lane, around 500km West of Cordoba. The local airport is connected to Buenos Aires. (- 31°33’12”, – 68°41’40”)
