Autódromo Internacional de Codegua – Codegua

Circuit: Existing
Layout: Actual

When was the track built?

Opened in 2014, after the idea of four local entrepreneurs to have a permanent circuit closer to the Nation capital.
It has hosted mainly national events although it was associated with a Superbike appointment in 2015.
The new Formula One Organization has included it in the Database to host the Chilean GP, in a turnover with other two circuits, pending improvement of run-off areas and pit buildings, which are planned to be completed next year.

When was its first Grand Prix?

It will be the first ever Formula 1 GP in this venue.
It is one of the three Chilean circuits in the database that will rotate for a spot in the Continental Series.

What’s the circuit like?

The “Full Circuit” layout used by Formula One cars has a snaking, slow first sector, where it will be crucial not to make any mistake and stay close to the car in front as the long back straight is the best place for overtaking.
The final sector is faster, with more high-speed corners but the only other good spot for wheel-to-wheel action is Turn 1.
Temperatures range vary from 8°C to 25°C, which can impact the performance of cars significantly. We expect to see medium-high downforce set-ups.

Where is it located?

In Codegua, North of the city of Rancagua in Chile’s O’Higgins region. Santiago and its International airport are around 100km to the North. (- 34°02’14”, – 70°37’53”)
