When was the track built?
Opened in 2010, it’s the newest and most modern venue in Peru, used for national and continental events, including Endurance races like the six Hours of Peru, one of the oldest races in South America.
In order to host Formula One, a new variant of 3.8km, designed by me, will be created, leaving the existing 2.4km circuit unaltered; facilities will also be improved.
When was its first Grand Prix?
It will be the first ever Formula 1 GP in this country.
It’s one of the two circuits in the Peru that will rotate for the eight spot of the South American Continental Series.
What’s the circuit like?
A simple layout, promoting overtaking, with a short lap-time and high average speeds, but made more challenging and interesting by significant elevation changes as it unravels from the coastline, in the area of Turn 1, to the hills at the back of the pits. It gives an “old-Dijon” feeling.
Cars will run low downforce set-ups. The circuit is often dusty as the wind brings sand from the surroundings.
Where is it located?
Around 70 kms south of the Peruvian capital Lima, in San Bartolo district, and its airport. (- 12°23’51”, – 76°45’09”)
