Red Star Raceway – Delmas

Circuit: Existing
Layout: Fictitious (designed by me) – © 2020 AllAlongTheRacetrack

When was the track built?

Built in 2009 and opened the following year, the 4km original circuit was meant for two-wheeled enthusiasts and it has never hosted any official race.
In 2019 I was asked to renew it to make it suitable for Formula 1.
The second half of the track has been reshaped, with a new box and paddock location, and all facilities has been extended and upgraded to entertain 80,000 fans.

When was its first Grand Prix?

This circuit has never been used for racing.
It will be used for F1 Continental and World races.

What’s the circuit like?

The first half of the track has remained almost unchanged, with two heavy breaking zones and three hairpins before reaching turn 8.
The pits and starting lane are now on the longer straight so the box and paddock buildings were being expanded.
From turn 10 it is a completely new design, adding almost 300 meters to the total length, but keeping the circuit characteristics, mixing quick and slow turns.

Where is it located?

Close to Delmas, around 50 miles east of Johannesburg, in the direction of Emalahleni ( – 26°04’27”, + 28°45’07”)
