Black Star Gate Circuit – Accra

When was the track built?

With one of the freest and most stable governments in the Continent, Ghana was one of the first countries to be registered for a new Grand Prix in the new F1 Organization.
Funding was made available to host a race in the streets of Accra and the famous area of Victoriaborg, near the Ocean shore, and full of iconic landmarks, was selected.
The circuit, designed by me, will have permanent pit buildings on John Evans Atta Mills High Street and will unravel through the tight streets of the quartier.
With the typical challenges of a street course, and the peculiarity of its location, it will surely become an important event in the F1 calendar.

When was its first Grand Prix?

This will be the first ever F1 GP held in Ghana. The new circuit will be ready to host a Continental series race in 2023.

What’s the circuit like?

The circuit can be split into two parts: from Turn 17 to Turn it benefits from the wider street used for the main straight and it offers high-speed straights and 3 overtaking spots.
After T7, streets become tighter and with more 90° corners and tight chicanes it poses more classic challenges to drivers, passing very close to walls in the part where most of the lap time can be gained or lost.
Particularly interesting the super-fast sequence of T1-2-3, which makes Turn 4 the first heavy braking zone that will be particularly tricky at the start with 20+ cars through.
It’s possible to have different set-ups trying to be better in different areas; wind could be a factor, too.

Where is it located?

In the Victoriaborg and Gold Coast City areas, near the ocean, passing by Independence square, government buildings and the football stadium (5°32’56.4″N; 0°11’35.9″W)
