Igora Drive (Игора Драйв) – Sosnovo (Сосново)

Circuit: Existing
Layout: Actual

When was the track built?

The Igora Drive complex, Russian latest modern circuit facility, is an FIA Grade 1 circuit with multiple layout variations, alongside karting, motocross, rally, ring and winter driving courses and conference facilities.
Completed in 2019, thanks to the investment of billionaire Yury Kovalchuk, main owner of the Rossiya Bank, it was immediately supposed to be a challenger for Sochi for hosting a GP.
Thankfully with the new organization Russia will host three GPs per year so the rotation will fully promote all venues.

When was its first Grand Prix?

Russia has 2 places in the Continental and 1 in the World series; this is one of the eight circuits that will rotate for those spots.
It will be the first ever GP on this venue.

What’s the circuit like?

Coming from Tilke’s pen, it reminds a bit of Motorland Aragon design, although it will not feature significant elevation changes seen at the Spanish venue.
It is the usual combination of long straights followed by overtaking spots and sharp corners mixed with fast and flowing curves, where Formula 1 cars can show all their pace.
Engine power and car balance will be pivotal to deliver lap times here.

Where is it located?

In the Priozersk district of the Leningrad Oblast, near St Petersburg, around an hour from its airport. (60.515638; 30.209829)
