Ceylon Autodrome – Tissamaharama

Circuit: Real Project, never developed
Layout: Actual

When was the track built?

A plan to construct an international standard racetrack in Sri Lanka was initiated at Tissamaharama in the Hambantota district in the early 2000s, expected completion in 2010.
It was including three different configurations (although only a draft of the Formula 1 circuit has been presented) and facilities including Pit Complex, Race/Safety Control Room, Media Centre, VIP Suite and Stewards Room plus a world-class Medical Centre.
The project was stopped for financial issues but thanks to the new F1 Organization, where hosting a GP is more profitable, it has been re-launched and will be ready for 2023.

When was its first Grand Prix?

The new circuit will be ready for the new F1 in 2023 and will host the first ever GP in the country.
It will rotate with the Colombo city circuit in the Continental series.

What’s the circuit like?

The 5.6km track has a combination of three high-speed straights plus a fast parabolic curve, with the longest one being 1.2 km, and technical corners; they vary from fast sweeping ones in the first two sectors to sharp and slow in the final part creating a very challenging circuit.
Teams will probably prefer to favour top speed settings, but traction will be critical as well, especially in the last five corners.

Where is it located?

In an area around the Kirindi Oya Live Stock Farm, Tissamaharama, around 150km south-east of the capital Colombo. (+ 6°15’46”, + 81°17’19”)
