When was the track built?

Sri Lanka has been in the conversation for hosting a Formula One GP in the last decade, but a proper project never took place.
Colombo is ready to build a new International Financial City, with a 15 billions dollars investment, reclaiming land from the Indian Ocean hosting a financial district, residential and entertainment venues and a Marina.
From 2023 it will also be the background of the new circuit, designed by me, with permanent pit and paddock facilities in the Chalmer’s Granaries area and the circuit going around the streets and the channels of Beira Lake.

When was its first Grand Prix?

The new circuit will be ready for the new F1 in 2023 and will host the first ever GP in the country.
It will rotate with Ceylon Autodrome in the Continental series.

What’s the circuit like?

It is definitely an unconventional street course, with few 90° turns and many fast corners, straights and areas for overtakes.
In particular sector 2 includes a chicane and a sequence of high-speed corners facing the lake, combining amazing sceneries and great racing.
In the final sector, instead, there are three straights, although not completely rectilinear, leading back to the starting line.
High average speeds, low drag set-ups and hot temperatures will surely provide thrilling battles.

Where is it located?

Close to the port and the new Colombo International Financial City development, around 15 km north of the airport. (+ 6°56’00”, + 79°50’43”)
